Once again MMRDA’s Media hype. It should be every Mumbaikars’ concern that a responsible planning authority is turning into mediocre Real Estate Agent.
Prices of property cannot increase when the metrorail is elevated. It may be true if the same Metro goes Underground, because an additional transport system is created and other mode of Public Transport will have opportunity to improve.
If that is the logic, then why there is a huge difference in value of properties between Santacruz Station and Linking Road, Bandra Station and Hill Road, Dadar station and Shivaji Park or Grant Road and Peddar Road ? (Metro is like a toilet, in the house, it’s a necessity but no one wants to expose it!)
MMRDA’s statement “Mumbai Transformation Support Unit has come up with a suggestion to give higher FSI around the area of the upcoming Metro Station”. This is the most dangerous statement by our planning Authority.
Just imagine, increase in FSI around all our suburban stations. (In fact that was one of the reason to resist using TDR on both sides of Railway tracks).
Elevated Metro Stations are worse than the existing Railway Stations because they are forcibly built in the middle of our roads with no open space. Here all properties are over developed along the alignment. Showing such fraudulent hope of increase in FSI is like putting fuel in the fire.
MMRDA is systematically playing with the sentiments of innocent citizens in the name of the development. The hidden truth is they are all set to destroy and sale our city.

What you write is like educating people and spreading knowledge among people. It’s point blank, however it’s not everything. I believe more knowledge should be spread for the benefit of citizens.
ReplyDeleteI believe knowledge is supreme, above every thing, all tangible and intangible things and that includes MMRDA, its creator or their collective thinking.
What you say is understood by school going childeren of age less than Ten years.
On their own they may not understand politics and vast interests involved.
And given proper knowledge public understands every thing.
So what’s wrong with MMRDA? Do their heads have lesser knowledge than a child’s? No.
Than why they do not understand benefits of UNDERGROUND METRO?
KYA MITTI KI KAMI HAI YA KUMBHAR KAMINA HAI? Again NO.
NA TO MITTI KI KAMI HAI NA TO KUMBHAR KAMINA HAI.
AGAR KOI KAMI HAI TO WHO HAI SHAKTI KI,
UNKE HATH MEIN ACHHE KAM KARNE KI AUR DIMAG MEIN SAHI SOCHNE KI.
Politics and vast interest could be result of lack of such energy.Nothing to say about politics every one knows it. There were times when 55 crore bofors could shake whole nation. Now adays nothing happens – worli sea link project cost went up 4 folds – CWG project originally less than 100 crore multiplies to several thousand crores, highest ever money spent for CWG, lets see what happens now? All the evils be it CWG or METRO (mumbai) should come out before public.
Regarding visible vast interests every thing can be said when agreement between interested parties ( state govt agency – project participant) is placed in public domain. Will this ever happen?
The city needs better planers and visionaries not Autocracy. Why handful people decide for metro overground against wish of society for underground and spend thousands of crore in the name of planning and development and ruin face of city. The people are crying out loud to save open spaces. Govt. is determined to eat up open spaces available over roads - In the name of public service for whose benefit?
Spreading knowledge will bring CHANGE for good

If cost is sole reason for MMRDA for going underground, one can cut cost by realigning the route. Why not plan metro to pass below Juhu Airport ? It will directly connect from 10th road to Linking road, thus avoiding S.V.Road altogether. Also it will reduce few kilometer of total length. We have seen horrible conditions of road below Vile Parle west Sky walk and we can imagine, what will happen if metro is to be elevated.
